YOU are considered a product
The term “Cradle to Grave” began to be used in a business and environmental context in the 1970s. The EPA formally established a comprehensive regulatory program under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) in 1976, which is referred to as “Cradle to Grave”.
The term “cradle to cradle” began in the 1970s when Walter R. Stahel coined it. The concept was further developed in the 1990s by the Environmental Protection Encouragement Agency. The term gained significant attention with the publication of the book “Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things” by William McDonough and Michael Braungart in 2002.
Cradle-to-Gate is a type of life cycle assessment (LCA) that evaluates the environmental impact of a product from the extraction of raw materials up to the point where the product leaves the factory gate. This approach omits the use phase and disposal phase of the product.
The cradle-to-gate approach is often used to compile the life cycle inventory (LCI) of a product. This allows businesses to see where:
-Resources can be saved,
-Emissions can be cut, or
-Overall environmental impact can be decreased.
It is also used to assess the carbon footprint of raw materials and manufacturing processes.
For a streamlined process, specialized LCA software and expert AI consultation is necessary to manage the complexity of cradle-to-gate analysis and ensure accurate data collection.
